TORONTO – A powerful tropical storm is moving towards central Japan, prompting warnings across the country.
Tropical storm Neoguri – which was downgraded from a super typhoon – struck Okinawa on Tuesday. The storm is one of the biggest to hit the region this summer.

On Tuesday, when it was still a typhoon, Neoguri toppled trees, caused widespread flooding and killed at least 30 people on the small island of Okinawa.
Neoguri is producing maximum sustained winds of 111 km/h with gusts of 139 km/h. The storm is moving northeast around 15 km/h and is forecast to strike Kyushu island on Thursday, local time.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings for for high waves, heavy rain and flooding have been issued across southern Japan. Advisories have also been issued across the country.
The tropical storm brings the threat of landslides, floods and even tornadoes.
