WATCH: Joan Rivers calls Obama ‘gay,’ says First Lady is ‘transgender’

TORONTO — Comedian Joan Rivers has sparked criticism for calling U.S. president Barack Obama gay and declaring First Lady Michelle Obama is transgender.

The 81-year-old was asked by a reporter on a New York City sidewalk if the U.S. will see its first gay president.

“We already have it with Obama,” Rivers replied. “So let’s just calm down.”

She added: “You know Michelle is a tranny.”

When the reporter asked her to repeat the comment, Rivers said: “A transgender. We all know it. Oh gosh, it’s OK.”

The comments lit up social media.

“Going too far ISN’T funny, Joan,” tweeted @PalmSpringsPers.

@Armbar93 opined: “Finally someone has the balls to say it.”
