This year’s “construction holiday” in Quebec was a deadly one for nearly two dozen motorists.
There were 21 deaths in the province over the two-week period, a common time for Quebecers to take their vacation.
The Surete du Quebec had 6,000 operations set-up on roads throughout the province.
The construction holiday is typically the deadliest period of the year in Quebec.
George Iny of the Automobile Protection Association (APA) says that’s because of increased exposure – more drivers on the road leads to more accidents.
The following are the number of deaths on the road in previous years during the same time period:
Year # of Deaths
2008 25
2009 21
2010 13
