MONTREAL – Sam Hamad is still the man to run the Quebec Transport Department despite Sunday’s collapse of part of the Ville Marie Tunnel, Premier Jean Charest says.
Rushing to the defence of his minister, Charest said Hamad has done “very well” in an extremely difficult situation.

“Yes, I am satisfied.” Charest told reporters Thursday morning after a meeting in a Montreal hotel to plan a trade mission to China.
“It’s not easy for a transport minister in this context. He is placed in a situation that is unexpected and a source of concern.”
Charest repeated that it’s a miracle no one was killed in the Sunday morning collapse of a huge concrete beam in the downtown tunnel.
But he warned that all the facts of the case are not in yet, so it’s too early to lay blame.
