Gary Mar served as Alberta’s official representative to the U.S.A., based in Washington D.C. for the past three years, before pursuing the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta.
Prior to that posting, Mar served 14 years as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary Nose Creek and Calgary McKay. He was a Cabinet Minister in five different portfolios, as Minister of Environment, Education, four years as Minister of Health and Wellness, and International & Intergovernmental Relations.

Before serving Albertans in the Legislature, Mar had a broad general legal practice in Calgary. His record earned him an appointment as Queen’s Counsel in 1994.
Mar was born and raised in Alberta, and now lives with his wife Nancy, and their three children, Lauren, Jared and Mackenzie.
