EDMONTON – The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is investigating after a Canadian National Railway train derailed near a community northwest of Edmonton Wednesday.
The freight train derailed around 3:45 p.m. near the Hamlet of Faust, which is located about 60 kilometres west of Slave Lake.
Twenty cars came off the tracks in the derailment. Chris Krepski, a spokesperson with the TSB, says 17 residue tank cars, one lumber car, and two hopper cars derailed.
“There were no reported injuries, nor were there any reported releases of dangerous goods,” Krepski said Wednesday night.
The incident comes just weeks after a CN train carrying pulp derailed in Slave Lake.

Three investigators are being sent to Faust to try to determine what caused the derailment.
“Once we get to the site, it’s about gathering information. So we’ll be going on the accident site, documenting the scene, examining wreckage,” Krepski said, “downloading information from the locomotive event recorder, which is like a black box, interviewing crew members, interviewing witnesses, that sort of thing.”
Faust is located about 310 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
