North Okanagan RCMP seize more than 1,400 pot plants

SPALLUMCHEEN, B.C. — A pair of north Okanagan residents have been arrested in Spallumcheen after police busted a grow-op in the rural township.

A 53-year-old man and 50-year-old woman have been brought in on drug production charges.

The two say they have a license to grow marijuana, but the Mounties say it’s for a different address and for only 392 plants.

The investigation started in October 2012 but it wasn’t until Tuesday that police executed a search warrant to scour the residence.

“The seizure resulted in 1446 marijuana plants being seized from the residence along with all the growing equipment,” says Vernon RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk.

“Power to the residence had to be disconnected by BC Hydro because of electrical safety concerns.”
