Downtown furnishings to look more ‘alike’

REGINA – The Regina Downtown Business Improvement District is trying to determine what new benches and garbage containers should look like as many near the end of their lifecycle.

Regina city council has approved a $34,000 grant to help with that study, which is expected to cost around $50,000 in total.

In the past, there hasn’t been a standard look, according to RDBID executive director Judith Veresuk.

“You can see a lot of furniture in varying degrees of age … varying states of disrepair,” Veresuk said. “We want to create that ‘district feel’ for our downtown.”

“Right now, it’s not accomplished by what is placed there.”

New furnishings, such as benches or signs, could be seen downtown as early as next spring.
