The southern part of Markham, this riding consists of everything west of Ninth Line and South of 16th Avenue until McCowan Road, at which point the northern border becomes Highway 7.

Michael Chan has held this riding for the Liberals since a 2007 by-election when he replaced fellow Liberal MPP Tony Wong. When the riding was part of the much larger Markham electoral district, it was held by PC MPPs from 1987 to 2003.

By the numbers

Suburb centre: The average household size of 3.7 people is not only the largest in all of Ontario, it’s the largest for any federal riding in Canada. In addition, only 7.4 per cent of households have one person, also the lowest number in the nation. Only 34 per cent of people have English as their mother tongue, while it’s Cantonese for 17.46 per cent of residents – the highest number in Ontario.
