History

Created from Barrie-Simcoe-Bradford in 2004, PC MPP Rod Jackson took this riding by just over 2500 votes in 2011 over the Liberals. Aside from 2007-2011, when the Liberals won with former MP Aileen Carroll, the area has been reliably Progressive Conservative for decades.

The city of Barrie has doubled in population in the last 20 years and now has one of the youngest populations in Ontario, with a median age is 36.1. 49.2% of people over 15 are married.
