Crash closes Crowchild Trail during Monday morning rush

CALGARY – One person was rushed to hospital on Monday morning after a serious collision on Crowchild Trail.

Police say Toyota Corolla was travelling northbound on Crowchild Trail on the bridge over the Bow River when the driver lost control, crashing the car into the median.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car.

EMS rushed him to hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating both speed and alcohol as factors in the collision.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m., causing significant backups as police completely shut down northbound Crowchild Trail at 17th Avenue S.W. and partially closed southbound Crowchild Trail at 5th Avenue N.W.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is ask to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
