WEST KELOWNA — The District of West Kelowna predicted the situation dealing with a road washout was going to get worse and they were right.
Gellatly Road between Witt Road and Angus Drive will remain closed for the next five weeks.
The road runs parallel to Smith Creek and began washing away last Friday.
Officials say the situation is threatening to wash away the road and utilities.
They add that the situation will likely get worse, saying that more of the slope washed away on the weekend.
Officials say repairs and prevention work are underway including diverting wastewater from heading into Okanagan or in Smith Creek, which is a fish-bearing creek.
