TORONTO – A Montreal activist has received a suspended sentence and probation for his role in last summer’s G20 protests in Toronto.
Jaggi Singh was handed a 60-day suspended sentence and 12 months probation by a Toronto judge today. He must also perform 75 hours of community service.
Singh pleaded guilty to a mischief charge for urging people to tear down a security fence during the meeting of international leaders last June.

He had also been charged with conspiracy, but those charges were dropped.
Of the more than 1,000 people arrested during the summit, only a handful of charges remain.
Many of those arrested were never charged, and hundreds of charges have been dropped.
Singh is a community organizer with the Anti-Capitalist Convergence as well as the group No One Is Illegal-Montreal.
“My only regret is that we didn’t succeed in tearing down that fence,” Singh said outside court.
