FREDERICTON – Police are still on scene at Odell Park in Fredericton after the discovery of a body Monday morning.
Insp. Martin Gaudet told reporters on Monday a call came in at about 9 a.m. that an individual walking in the park had located a body.
“It’s about as remote as it can be within the park, down an embankment,” Gaudet said.

The coroner remained on scene Monday afternoon. Foul play is not being ruled out.
“We are at a very early stage in the investigation,” Gaudet said. “When we find a victim like that, a sudden death or a body, we always start very high and assume the worst and work our way down.”
Gaudet said the body had been there for “quite a while.” He said it could take into the night for forensics, fire officials and police to process the scene. Responders are dealing with snow and cold weather conditions.
Gaudet also said there are two outstanding missing persons cases in the Fredericton area. He’s hoping the identification of the body will “shed some light” on the situation but says they haven’t identified the gender of the body yet.
Emergency responders are using an all-terrain vehicle to navigate the park’s trails as they investigate.
