The students at Ross Sheppard High School have the opportunity to take part in a different type of learning.

"H2O" or Holistic Health Option, lets students get in touch with themselves emotionally and physically. The class does hot yoga, zumba, roller skating, power walks and meditation. There is also an in-class component where the students learn about nutrition as well as healthy eating and sleeping habits.

Community service is one of the requirements for the course, students are expected to go out into the community and volunteer.

Kim Wyley started the class after being involved in a car accident. Wyley said she was "having chronic pain and was on medication and just wanted a holistic way to heal [herself]. So [she] started doing yoga and meditation and stretching". After finding that the holistic methods were helping, the teacher decided she had to spread the word, and help students solve everyday problems in a natural way.

"If you can’t sleep at night, don’t take sleeping pills, do some breathing, get out and exercise during the day and you’ll sleep better at night"

Wyley also said it’s good for the students to be completely removed from technology.

"I find they’re so plugged in. They’re always on the phone, they’re always on the computer, they’re multi-tasking, they’re go go go. So during meditation…there’s nothing"

The class is 80 minutes a day but Wyley hopes the students learn from the class, and are able to practice the tecnhiques on their own time as well.
