Police believe the pedestrian climbed over the cement barrier that divides east and westbound traffic before being struck by the truck.

The victim is on life support at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Police said heavy rain and the pedestrian running across a dark stretch of Lougheed Highway were factors in the crash.

The person driving the truck stayed at the scene, and is cooperating with police.

The investigation of the details surrounding the crash are still being investigated.
