Watch the video above: Recyclables stolen from boy with cystic fibrosis
SASKATOON – A Saskatoon boy who had been collecting bottles to save for a dream trip with his grandparents had his dream shattered on Friday when all his bottles were stolen.
Hudson Marchewka, 16, has lived with autism and epilepsy his whole life. On top of that, he was recently diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and although his family works tirelessly to provide him with a good life, they recently needed help.
“He got his wish through the Wish Foundation, which I am so thankful for. He wanted to go to Thomas Land in the United Kingdom,” said Mimi Marchewka, his mother.
Hudson loves trains, so Thomas Land was the perfect destination. Though more than anything, he wanted his grandparents to come with him.
So Hudson began collecting bottles to save for the trip and soon he had hundreds.
Then on Friday, his mother said all of Hudson’s bottles were stolen from their backyard, leaving him devastated.
The family posted their story on Facebook and Warman Buy and Sell.
“I had the most amazing response – people that were sending us messages, saying, ‘we want to give your son these bottles,” said Mimi.
Dozens of bags of bottles were generously dropped off at the family’s house.
Flaman Rentals in Saskatoon donated a trailer so the family could take them in to the recycling depot.
“My son has been over the moon,” she said.
The family’s trip to Thomas Land is planned for October.
If all the generous bottle donations continue, the family says he will be boarding the plane with his grandparents.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can view this story on Global Saskatoon’s Facebook page to get in touch with Hudson’s mother Mimi.
