Retailers are cashing in big time after True North announced the city’s new NHL team will be called the Winnipeg Jets.
"We had about five or six people waiting in line just to open the doors," said Zak Rubin, retail general manager at River City Sports. "It’s like a mini stampede people coming in, got to get their Jets stuff."
River City Sports is struggling to keep up with fans buying everything from hats to jersey.
"I didn’t want to buy anything if it wasn’t going to be the Jets, but now that I know for sure, I want to get some stuff while I can, before it’s all gone," said Gavin Pell, who stopped by to pick up a Jets hat.
"We’ve got orders coming this week, shirts, hat, souvenirs, coming as quickly as we can get it," said Rubin.
Another rush is expected when the new logo is unveiled; however True North says that won’t happen for a while.
It’s believed it will look very different from the old design.
