Second top 10 auto thief captured this week

The second top 10 auto crime offender in a week has been arrested, this time in West Vancouver.

RCMP say 43-year-old Douglas John Holmes had warrants out for assaulting a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and breach of probation.

RCMP say he was arrested “in the vicinity” of a stolen 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, one of the top 5 stolen vehicles in B.C.

He allegedly struck a police officer with a stolen vehicle in June 2013.

“The apprehension of another top 10 Auto Crime Offender within a week brings a prolific offender before the courts and in turn reinforces IMPACT’s goal of keeping the citizens of British Columbia safe,” says Insp. Peter Jadis, head of the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT).

This past Sunday, 32-year-old Shaun Darryl Bolko was arrested by Abbotsford Police  “in the vicinity” of a stolen Ford F-250 — the most stolen vehicle in B.C. last year.

April is Auto Crime Enforcement Month in B.C. Auto thefts have been trending down in B.C. for years now, from an average 70 per day in 2003 to 17 per day in 2013.

RCMP say releasing a top 10 list annually has been very effective in locating offenders – with 95 of the posted 100 offenders arrested to date.
