Pierre-Karl Peladeau: ‘Don’t believe the polls, PQ will win a majority next Monday’

MONTREAL – When he walks into a room, everyone notices. Pierre-Karl Peladeau always looks in control – displaying a sense of confidence that’s difficult to miss.

He’s also confident about a big win next Monday.

“My prediction is the PQ will be elected with a majority government,” Peladeau told Global News Thursday.

With the campaign in its final stretch, the 52-year-old media mogul insists the national polling firms have it all wrong. Recent surveys are predicting a Liberal victory.

He says residents of St-Jerome, where he is running for MNA, are telling him a different story.

“What I’m feeling around, meeting with the people, it’s very positive, to me that’s the real test, this is the real poll,” Peladeau says.

In a one-on-one interview, Peladeau tried his best to keep the conversation away from the referendum issue which may be hurting the PQ in opinion polls.

Political analysts believe he may have single-handedly changed the focus of the campaign with his now famous “Faire Une Pays” statement on March 9 – the day he announced his candidature.

“Unfortunately, one of the things that went wrong with this campaign is that we’re focussing too much on this,” Peladeau says.

In 2012, the CAQ won the St-Jerome largely thanks to star canadidate Jacques Duchesneau.

Duchesneau won by less than 1,000 votes.
