Arcade Fire, Neil Young, Sloan longlisted for Polaris Music Prize

The 2011 Polaris Music Prize Long List includes 40 albums. From Arcade Fire to Young Galaxy, this year’s recognized records — all released between the period of June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011 — were announced in a press conference Thursday.

The jury, a 227-member group of music journalists, will determine this year’s Short List July 6.

As announced earlier this month, the Polaris pot has shot up to $30,000. As an added bonus, Short List nominees will also receive $2,000 courtesy Slaight Music.

The 2011 Polaris Prize winner will be named September 19.
