CALGARY- A Calgary mother whose young daughter was killed in a freak accident is speaking out about her heartbreak.
Last week, six-year-old Isabelle Burwell-Keck died in her Southwood home, after a large TV fell on her. The family told the Calgary Herald that Isabelle was getting some clothes out of a dresser when the TV toppled over.
The girl was rushed to Rockyview Hospital where more than a dozen medical staff tried to resuscitate her, but she did not survive.
Her mother Elizabeth issued the following statement on Facebook.
EMS say they respond to numerous emergencies involving children and heavy furniture, and warn parents to take extra precautions.
“In regards to tip resistant furniture, special brackets can be purchased to secure that furniture to the wall or whatever object they are next to to prevent that piece of furniture from falling forward,” says Adam Loria from EMS.
A trust fund has been set up in the name Elizabeth Burwell, to help the family with expenses. Donations can be made at any Scotiabank branch.
