Raj Sherman was elected to his first term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Meadowlark on March 3, 2008. He now sits as an Independent MLA, after being ousted from Caucus in November 2010 for criticizing how the Stelmach Government is handling Emergency Care. Sherman is currently a member of the Standing Committees on Health and Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing. Previous appointments include serving as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Health and Wellness from March 12, 2008, to November 22, 2010.

Prior to serving as a MLA of Alberta, Sherman was an ER physician for 15 years. During his medical career, he also served as a STARS flight physician, as President of the Section of Emergency Medicine for the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) and as a member on the Health Issues Council with the AMA.

Sherman completed his medical studies at the University of Alberta; obtaining his MD from the Faculty of Medicine.
