Mayor Pat Fiacco announced a final outline for the Regina Revitalization Project Friday.
The city plans to redevelop over 50 acres within the heart of Regina… and with it, comes a brand new entertainment facility.
“This project will be by far the biggest inner-city re-development initiative in Regina’s history,” said Mayor Fiacco. “Turning the vision into reality is complex, but it will pay huge dividends for our entire community.”
It’s a complicated process, broken down into three stages.
In the first phase, objectives for the redevelopment initiative will be further defined. The City Manager plans to report back to Council by August 2011.
In the following year, detailed plans on how to use the current CP Rail yards and the 20 acres of Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field will be sorted out.
At this point, the plan is to start construction on the new entertainment facility by late 2012, with completion by the end of 2015.
Once the stadium is up and running, the redevelopment of the current Mosaic stadium will take place.
Plans include transforming the area into a mixture of housing, commercial and retail buildings. Development of this site is set to start in 2016.
Time lines are aggressive, but if you don’t have time lines to respond to, then you can flounder away,” City Manager Glen Davies said.
The proposed budget for the initial three phase plan is $500,000, with the provincial government covering half of the request.
Davies said the three phase plan will go before city council on Monday for final approval.
