Surrey RCMP looking for suspect in senior attack

An assault and robbery attempt happened on a 72-year-old man in Surrey’s Newton Athletic Park last week, and police are looking for help.

On Thursday, March 13 around 1 a.m., police responded to an assault. Surrey RCMP found the victim with injuries on his face and hands, and was subsequently taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

They’re requesting public assistance in finding the suspect, who they believe to be male, with a dark complexion and slim build in his early 20’s. Witnesses say he is around five-foot-eight and was wearing a dark hoodie, red jacket, and dark sweat pants at the time. He fled the area heading south on a park trail.

Investigators do not believe the attack is related to other incidents, but say the man’s jewellery may have been targeted.
