SYDNEY, N.S. – Cape Breton regional council has selected the next chief of the Cape Breton Regional Police Service.

Council voted Tuesday night to accept the promotion of the force’s deputy chief, Peter McIsaac, to chief effective immediately.

McIsaac’s appointment follows the sudden death of chief Myles Burke.

The 49-year-old Burke died of natural causes last month while attending meetings in Halifax.
