<p>HALIFAX – The Halifax school board is cutting a program that helps high school students who struggle to stay in school.</p> <p>Board spokesman Doug Hadley told CTV news that it was a difficult decision the board had to make due to an $11-million budget shortfall.</p> <p>The Youth Pathways and Transitions Program helps troubled youth at the Quinpool Education Centre in Halifax.</p> <p>Six staff were employed at the centre, assisting students who have been suspended or are regularly skipping classes.</p> <p>The cut is the result of the province’s two per cent budget cuts to school boards announced in February.</p> <p>Paula Simpson, a mother whose daughter is at the centre, told CTV that if the centre closes it will be a setback to students who are struggling to stay in school.</p> <p>(CTV)</p>
