An Okanagan athlete is at the centre of one of the most inspirational sports stories of the year.
Danny Watkins, 26, of West Kelowna was a student at a U.S. college when he was urged to try out for the football team.
Watkins hadn’t played the sport as a youngster; however he became an instant sensation.
His superb play attracted the attention of pro scouts and the American media.
He was recently selected in the first round of the NFL draft and will soon play with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Watkins, who still trains in Kelowna, says that when his pro football career is over he’ll pursue his boyhood dream of becoming a firefighter.
