Heavy rain hammers Halifax area

HALIFAX – Heavy rain is pounding the Halifax area and isn’t expected to let up until mid-Thursday.

Localized flooding has closed Pleasant Street from Acadia to Mount Hope.

Crews on scene tell Global News that there is about 12 to 16 inches of water on the road. A detour has been set up.

Power has been knocked out to about 2,100 customers in the Dartmouth area.

The blackout covers the area around Dartmouth General Hospital, Shearwater and the refinery.

The estimated time of restoration is 8:15 a.m. No cause has been listed yet.

Strong winds may decrease visibility on the roads so commuters are asked to drive with caution.

It is also pushing some debris, notably trash bags, out onto the roads in parts of Dartmouth.
