Calgary sex offender ordered to undergo 60-day assessment for offender status

<p>CALGARY – A Calgary judge has ordered a convicted sex offender to undergo a 60-day assessment.</p> <p>The assessment will determine if the Crown can seek long-term offender status against him, which could mean up to 10 years of community supervision.</p> <p>Erik Wanamaker, 62, was convicted last week of accessing and possessing child pornography.</p> <p>Wanamaker is no stranger to police, having served 11 years in prison for sex offences against children.</p> <p>He was released in 2004 and at that time police warned that he was a high risk to re-offend.</p> <p>The Crown says it would be seeking a sentence of at least three years in jail for Wanamaker’s latest conviction.</p> <p>(CHQR, The Canadian Press)</p>
