Nurses vs. Zombies

CALGARY – Zombies are trying to take over the world in a new game, but don’t worry because nurses trained at the U of C Qatar program will save you.

Nurses Against Zombieism is an online video game created by the University of Calgary Qatar Faculty of Nursing and Structured Abstraction. The game was designed for a number of reasons including to inform people about the Qater location.

“We’ve been there for about two years,” said Jenny Conway Fisher, University of Calgary – Qatar spokesperson. “The U of C was invited by the Qatar government to open up a campus there to run a Canadian nursing program.”

The campus’ first class graduated in 2010. Currently there are 134 students enrolled in the program with only seven male students. The zombie game also hopes to demonstrate that nursing isn’t just for women.

“Nursing is a truly diverse profession; today’s nurses are accomplished scientists, health administrators, researchers and clinical professionals,” said Dr. Carolyn Byrne, UCQ Dean and CEO. “And yet there are lingering negative stereotypes about nursing that persist all over the world. We are working to combat those stereotypes using fresh and innovative ideas.”
