Video: Peter MacKay Acceptance Speech 2011 Canadian Election- MacKay wins Central Nova

Peter MacKay is headed back to Ottawa for his sixth straight term as a Conservative MP for the riding of Central Nova.

His rivals proved to be no contest for Peter MacKay – as Mackay grabbed 20,861 votes, more than double his nearest competitor.

The riding has long been held by the name MacKay: His father , Elmer MacKay, served in parliament for much of the time between 1971 to 1993.

He congratulated his fellow candidates, saying they ran a “classy” race and touted the work of his volunteer team.

“We’ve had a whole army of volunteers working here in Central Nova and there’s no doubt that you could all pass basic training,” the Defence Minister, under Stephen Harper, told the room at his campaign headquarters.

MacKay dismissed talk Atlantic Canadians weren’t bothered by the idea of a coalition government, when speaking with Global News anchor Dawna Friesen.

He said constituents he has spoken with don’t want a government that would give the Bloc Quebecois any sort of leverage.

And as far as polls released prior to the vote, People in the east, he said, are concerned with what (or who) works best for them.

“Atlantic Canadians watch national trends, but they vote locally,” MacKay explained.

Central Nova had a lot of eyes on it last election, when Green Party Leader Elizabeth May challenged MacKay for his seat.

He won that race by almost 6,000 votes.
