BLOG: Morning News Rewind – March 4

On the March 4 Morning News: Sex offender support program funding cut, Fitness Tips, Meet the Mayor. Morning News Saskatoon

Here’s what was on the Morning News for Tuesday, March 4.

Kevin hear how sex offender support has been cut

Mornings News hears about funding cuts to Circles of Support and Accountability, which helps sex offenders to not re-offend.

I have never been to a program whereupon like-minded individuals are committing an offence, be it drinking, drugs, or otherwise; but I know people who have. We all do.

We all watch these people live with a skeleton in their closets and eventually come forward with it after months and years of trepidation.

And it’s kind of beautiful, don’t you think?

It’s tough to say what the worst would be, but a program whose purpose is to provide sex offenders with a shelter from ridicule deserves funding.

I hope it’s not just me in that mindset. I’d be surprised if it was.

The mayor discusses the hot topics with Jessica

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

We touched on a lot of topics given we only had four quick minutes for the interview, but the topic that really stood out for me was how Saskatoon is making headlines in Hong Kong!

Mayor Don Atchison delves deeper into it during the interview, but we talked about how their interest in the Bridges City coincides with our most recent milestone of surpassing the quarter million population mark.

Being that I live in an apartment, I also made sure to ask about the multi-unit recycling program.

Unfortunately, that discussion has been deferred for another six weeks, so we’ll see where that goes when the topic is revisited.

Melissa takes a tour of the Hospital Home Lottery show home

My jaw dropped when I first stepped into the grand prize show home. It is truly a dream home.

Curtis did such a fantastic job designing the place giving it a very posh and modern feel.

As mentioned this morning, the proceeds from the ticket sales stay right here in Saskatoon, benefitting our three hospitals.

It’s wonderful to know that throughout its 29 years of existence, the Hospital Home Lottery has been able to raise over $20 million for its cause.

Tickets are rapidly selling out with only 25 per cent left.

And a bonus feature that I didn’t mention this morning is that the winner of the dream home also wins $10,000. Talk about winning big time!

If you would like to see the home for yourself, you can head down Monday through Friday between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and on weekends from noon to 5 p.m.
