It’s been a long, hard road with many detours, but Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow and his band Anvil have finally made it.
Kudlow (guitar/vocals) and best friend Robb Reiner (drums) founded the band in the late 70s, but failed to find the same success as their contemporaries.
Despite personal and financial hardships, Kudlow and Reiner soldiered on – refusing to give up on their dream.
It was a 2008 documentary about the band’s struggles that finally introduced them to a wider audience.
The film "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and went on to win several awards. It afforded the band a level of success that Kudlow and Reiner had worked decades to achieve.
Currently on a cross-country tour, Kudlow took time to speak to Global Edmonton about his band’s unlikely rise to prominence. Kudlow’s commentary is wide-ranging, touching on everything from the ‘metal’ mentality to a Jaguar once owned by Sean Connery to recording at Dave Grohl’s studio to finally being able to quit his day job.
