The Transportation Ministry is keeping a close watch on changing avalanche conditions in the B.C. Interior, and avalanche control is job number one.
In video provided by the ministry, technicians conducting avalanche control set off a dramatic double slide a few days ago near Highway 3, about 15 kilomentres south of Fernie.
They trigger the slides in safe conditions so they do not come down on skiers or snowmobilers. The risk is very real as an avalanche killed eight snowmobilers near Fernie six years ago.
