Province investigating after doctor accessed 142 private patient records

MONCTON – New Brunswick’s privacy commissioner has been called in after health officials confirmed that a physician gained unauthorized access to 142 patient records.

The Vitalite Health Network says the alleged privacy breach took place between 2010 and 2012 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton.

The health board issued a statement Tuesday saying the problem was discovered in February 2013 during an audit.

It did not name the doctor in question.

The board says letters have been sent to affected patients and an internal investigation is underway.
