Kevin meets Mike Butler, a big city guy who gets it

In honour of Bernie Mac, I named her Babygirl. She was this forest-green Hyundai Elantra. I said it on air and I’ll say it again; I picked up my first girlfriend for my first date in that car.

I took Babygirl to British Columbia with me for my first job. I brought it back in one piece, and I got into a fender bender with it, too.

When the rad went on it and smoked me out on the side of the 401, a busy highway in Toronto. We got the hose replaced, but the next day, it wouldn’t start, and that was that. Babygirl was dead. To a bystander, she wasn’t much more than a hunk of metal, but what can you say about what she meant to me?

What I’m getting at is that I get it, and so does Mike Butler. Mike’s ability to draw on such a strong emotion for so many of us is phenomenal. Here’s a kid to watch.

Brooke Bulloch shows Joelle how hemp can be included in a healthy diet

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

I always love when Brooke Bulloch comes into studio with a Healthy Living segment. She has an uncanny way of translating complicated information in a way that anyone can understand when it comes to nourishing your body.

Today we talked about hemp, a relatively new health food out on the market. Because it is so new, and the industry so small, there isn’t a lot of research about this super food, but Brooke pointed out some points that make me ecstatic it’s a regular staple in my morning routine.

For instance, did you know that hemp seeds outweigh other nuts and seeds on the market, containing 2-3 times more protein? I certainly didn’t. The smoothie that Brooke brought on the show with hemp powder had 20 grams of protein! It’s definitely something worth checking out.

Tamra gives Kevin some ideas for his dream bathroom

Okay, so, really, how often do I do these segments? Jessica loves doing them, because she’s had a strong interest in interior design for a long while.

What’s lesser known is that I kind of have a penchant for it, too! There were four great ideas added to my dream home today; the idea of backlighting around a mirror offset from the wall, the heated floor tiles, the super-shower and, naturally, my own sink. I’m a diva, after all.

Michael Jerome Brown gives Joelle some insight into the blues

Michael Jerome Brown has a sound that want to lean back, kick up your feet and doze off to. His slightly high timbre and soothing acoustic style blend beautifully.

Today I learned about why he calls himself a “roots musician,” and it is simply because his range of skills covers more than just blues. Though Brown is in town for the Saskatoon Blues Festival, he is also touring schools this week and travels across Canada to promote his music.

It was great meeting this soft-spoken, incredibly talented man and I highly recommend getting out to take in one of his shows while he’s in Saskatoon.
