Vandal attacks pride flag at Calgary city hall

CALGARY-Crews were quick to put the pride flag back up at city hall Friday afternoon after someone took it down.

The flag was raised on the first day of the Sochi Olympics to show solidarity with the gay community in Russia for the duration of the games.

Sometime early Friday afternoon, someone cut the cord and the flag dropped to the ground, although it was not damaged.

The incident was captured by a security camera but by the time city hall security guards ran to the scene, the vandal was gone.

The flag pole was repaired and the pride flag is now flying again.

The city has filed a vandalism report with Calgary police.

On Saturday, the city says all flags at the old city hall will be flown at half-mast in honour of former alderman Sue Higgins, who passed away earlier this week.
