Whenever humans and wildlife end up in the same space, it usually ends badly for the animals and that is definitely the case in Delta along the new South Fraser Perimeter Road.
The highway opened just a month ago but it’s already proving deadly for the black-tailed deer who live in the area.
At least 10 deer have been killed by traffic since the road opened, and that’s despite efforts to protect them with measures like wildlife corridors and culverts.
The province says it spent at least $30 million on 25 tunnels and bridges to allow for the safe passage of the animals but clearly, not all of them are working.
