TORONTO — Tesina Painter says she met her soul mate — a Toronto penny stock trader named Jay — on Jan. 30 inside a Marriott hotel in New York City.
The only problem? She doesn’t know who he is.
Painter, a 48-year-old real estate agent from Texas, says she and Jay had an instant and profound connection.
“We spoke like we knew each other forever,” she recalls. “I’ve never felt anything like it.”
Painter was rushed out of the hotel restaurant by her friends, though, before she was able to get Jay’s contact information.
“I kicked myself when I got in the cab,” she told Global News.
Painter returned to the hotel but couldn’t find Jay. So, she decided to go public with her story in hopes of tracking him down.
“The worst thing that can happen is nothing,” says Painter, on the phone from Fort Worth. “Life is too short to not take action.”

She set up a Facebook page with her nickname Tessie — the name Jay knows her as — and an email address for him to contact her (tessielovesjay@gmail.com).
LISTEN: AM 640 spoke with Tesina Painter during The John Oakley Show Monday, February 10.
“I want to make sure he has my information,” explains Painter. “I know he’ll use it.”
Painter describes Jay as in his mid-40s, standing 5’10” and about 180 pounds, with short light brown hair and blue eyes.
She figures Jay was probably put off that she didn’t return to him at the hotel but she’s confident he will be impressed by her efforts to find him.
On Monday afternoon, Painter got a lead from someone who found a stock broker named Jay in a social group listed at meetup.com. She has sent a message and hopes it’s the right Jay.
“If I did nothing, I might wonder for a lifetime,” she says. “If I take action, I know I have done what I can to see if that intense lightning bolt to my heart will lead to more.”
