Vancouver police’s Major Crime Section is investigating after one man has died and two men are in custody following a violent slashing in downtown Vancouver Sunday night.
This is the city’s first homicide in 2014.
Police have now identified the victim as 28-year-old Robert Tyson Smith of Surrey.
Shortly after 11:00 p.m., police and paramedics were called to Granville and West Georgia Street after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed.
When police arrived, they found Smith unconscious on the sidewalk. He had suffered a life threatening slash wound. He underwent surgery last night but died as a result of his injuries at 2 a.m. Monday morning.
Using tips from witnesses, police arrested two men who were believed to have been involved in the incident.
Police say the motive for the attack is unknown and charges have not been laid.
