WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s beleaguered New Democrats wrapped up a weekend convention in Winnipeg Sunday.
About 400 delegates gathered under a cloud to discuss policy and figure out how to regain faltering public support.
The party was also rocked last week by the ousting of former cabinet minister Christine Melnick after she accused the premier’s office of using her as a scapegoat in an immigration controversy.
Premier Greg Selinger told delegates on Friday night her expulsion was necessary to keep the party focused.
He closed the convention by telling members he has drawn strength from the enthusiasm and dedication of delegates.
Selinger also took a parting shot at Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister, warning he would cut front-line services and support two-tier health care.
