HALIFAX – A mobile home in Eastern Passage is a total loss after fire swept through the structure Saturday night.
Around 6 p.m. on Saturday, firefighters responded to 45 Birchill Drive for a mobile home on fire.
Division Commander Corey Beales said firefighters don’t know where the fire started.
“We’re not sure if it started inside or it started outside. That would be speculation at this point in time,” he said.

However, he said that it is not considered suspicious.
Beales notes that mobile homes are small units within close proximity to one another so there was some worry about nearby mobile homes.
“There were some concerns of some exposures, like a sailboat, around it but the fire was contained within the trailer itself and the exposure did not really become an issue,” he said.
The blaze took about an hour to bring under control and an hour and a half to extinguish.
It is unknown whether the mobile home had a smoke detector or fire alarm.
The homeowner did not want to speak on-camera but tells Global News that he and his wife were home when the fire broke. He said the couple hasn’t been able to salvage anything from the wreckage.
Fire investigators will be on the scene Monday morning.
