The city’s protective services committee is supporting sweeping changes to Regina’s taxi regulations, including a standard fare.
On Thursday, City Councillors heard from concerned citizens who expressed their frustration with the current system.
As it stands, wheelchair-accessible taxis charge a drop rate of $7 compared to $3.80 for a standard taxi.
The committee is recommending an across the board rate of $4 instead. They’re also suggesting the city issue six extra accessible cab licenses.
“One, I think it’s the proper and fair thing to do to have standardized rates,” said Councillor Bob Hawkins. “two, I think this is an appropriate method of increasing taxi cabs available.”
The report still has to be approved by council.
