TORONTO – Denis Gagnon opened Day 2 of Toronto’s LG Fashion Week on Tuesday with an ample dose of rocker chic infused with hints of romanticism among his signature looks.
Black dominated the creations, which included sleek, sculptural jackets and the addition of rich, textured fur cascading on sweater sleeves and the backs of tailored jackets.
Yet the celebrated Montreal designer didn’t shy away from incorporating bold hits of colour. Bright blue – almost reminiscent of tulle – peeked out from beneath a gunmetal grey waxed skirt, and tufted wool sweaters were a stunning hot pink.
Pleats were plentiful in knee-length skirts and longer dresses that were drenched in both vibrant and more muted hues such as bright orange and pale pink.
One of Gagnon’s style staples – exposed zippers – added edge to multi-hued wrapped chiffon tops and dresses.
Gagnon demonstrated even greater range with an innovative take on knits, closing out the showcase with woven rope-like tops and a pair of dresses with asymmetrical hems accented by fur trim.
