REGINA – Four workers injured in an explosion at a Regina refinery are suing the company for negligence.

Kimberly Janvier, Irene Rombaut, Shawn Farrell and Sylvan Blake were working at the Co-Op refinery on October 6th, 2011 when the explosion occurred.

They say in their statement of claim that they all suffered severe physical injuries in the blast and they and their family members also suffered severe emotional distress and anxiety after the explosion.

The suit alleges that Federated Co-operatives Limited and Consumers Co-operative Refinery Limited were negligent for failing to ensure the workplace was safe.

The statement of claim alleges that there were reports questioning the safety of pipes at the plant prior to the explosion and also alleges that one month before the blast electricians working at the site refused to go to work due to safety concerns.
