REGINA – A very high honour for a local jewelry designer, Queen Elizabeth wore a Hillberg & Berk brooch to church yesterday.
Designer and founder of Hillberg & Berk, Rachel Mielke, created the piece at the request of Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Schofield.
The Lieut. Gov. presented the brooch to the Queen when she visited Buckingham Palace on official business back in October.
The brooch is set in 18 karat gold. The petals are made with tourmaline, with a freshwater pearl in the centre, and it’s surrounded by 300 diamonds.
It’s valued at $15, 000.
Mielke told Global News last fall she was really hoping she hit the mark with this design.
“She always wears quite traditional jewelry, but her brooches are always something interesting,” said Mielke. “She always goes more edgy on the brooches. So, we thought we would be able to create something that was in the Queen’s style, but that still encompassed Hillberg & Berk’s esthetic.”
