Questions are emerging Tuesday following the posting for an escort on a government-run job site, Global News has learned.
On Tuesday morning, the website saskjobs.ca was advertising for an escort job on behalf of the Fine Canada Dating Agency Corporation.
The job posting, listed under the category “summer student job,” asks applicants to send an e-mail with a picture.
“We are an extremely busy agency currently looking to add new females to our exclusive line-up,” the posting reads.
It has since been removed.
Rob Norris, minister of advanced education, employment and immigration, responded in Question Period to criticisms over the posting.
"This is completely unacceptable," he said. "We are taking immediate steps to ensure that this employer is delisted and we’re taking steps to ensure that we understand what happened."
Despite this, the opposition says the ad puts young women at risk.
“Clearly, this government needs to ensure there are filters to ensure that doesn’t happen on a government paid for, government sponsored website,” NDP critic Kevin Yates said.
There were 811,000 visits to the SaskJobs.ca website in February.
David Gerhard, assistant professor of computer science at the University of Regina, says it is difficult for any website to control appropriate job postings.
“If you were going to avoid all posts like that, then you’d have to have somebody reading every single post that comes on,” Gerhard said. “If the site is fairly large, you’d have many, many posts per minute.”
According to the provincial government, a total of 9,697 job postings were placed on the SaskJobs.ca website in February, a 13 per cent increase from the same time last year.
More than 25 per cent of those jobs were in the trades and transportation category.
The government says the saskjobs.ca website has people monitoring the site, but somehow the post was changed and was not caught by staff.
