Police said on Wednesday they were looking for Richard MacInnis, 44, who was last seen on foot.

The alert was sent at around 1 p.m. Wednesday. It covered the area of Northfield Road in Lower Northfield.

People were asked to stay inside, and not to leave their secure location. People were also warned not to pick up hitch hikers or disclose where police were located.

In a later update, police said they were initially called to the area after a tip from the public.

“Investigators searched the area and located him attempting to flee in a wooded area near Northfield Rd. in Lower Northfield,” RCMP said, adding that police air services, dog services and the Department of Natural Resources all took part in the search.

The emergency alert was set at 12:51 p.m., and MacInnis was located in a shed and arrested at around 2:15 p.m.

Five days ago, RCMP issued a release about MacInnis, of no fixed address. He was wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for a parole violation.

“Over the past week, Lunenburg District RCMP and RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment have received multiple reports of break and enters that coincided with MacInnis’ whereabouts,” RCMP said.

“As officers gather evidence, investigators would like to hear from you if you have any information, including video surveillance footage or if you’ve been the victim of a break-in that hasn’t been reported.”
