MARKHAM, Ont. – A 39-year-old man has been charged with child abandonment after a toddler was reportedly left unattended inside a parked car during frigid temperatures Tuesday night.
York police say the two-year old child was apparently left in a car in a Markham parking lot for about 40 minutes.
Police say the girl was found asleep in the vehicle at around 7 p.m. when it was about minus-14 and did not respond when officers tried to wake him by tapping on a window.
But the toddler was dressed for the weather and was unharmed.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26.
